I'm planning to do two years at Holmes then transfer to Mississippi State. A student review said: “The transfer process was smooth because I worked with my advisor from day one. Don't assume credits will transfer. Get it in writing.” Another said: “Some of my electives didn't count toward my major. I wasted a semester.”

Holmes has an articulation agreement with State, but I'm nervous. For students who transferred from Holmes, what was your experience? Did you follow a specific pathway? I want to plan ahead so I don't lose credits. 📋

I did the reverse (State to Holmes for a summer class) and learned a lot about how the system works. The articulation agreement is between the schools but individual departments have their own rules. For example, the English department at State might accept a Holmes composition class, but the Engineering department might not accept the same class as meeting their technical writing requirement. So you need to check with both the general transfer office and your specific major department.

Also—Holmes has some courses that are part of the "Mississippi Transfer Curriculum" (MTC). If you complete the entire MTC, it guarantees your general education credits transfer. But your major courses are separate. So focus on completing the MTC first, then knock out major prerequisites that you've confirmed transfer.
