I got sick last week and was about to go to an urgent care. Then I remembered reading about Student Health Services at Ole Miss . Here's the deal: your first visit each semester costs only $10. Compare that to urgent care which runs $150 to $300 or more each visit .

I paid $10 for a doctor's appointment that would have cost me $200 elsewhere. And if you're struggling to pay for labs or extra services, you can apply for up to $500 in assistance through the UHS Medical Expense Fund .

The Director of University Health Services said they offer "comprehensive women's health care, including gynecological services such as contraception counseling, IUD placement and routine preventive care" . That's stuff you'd normally need a specialist for.

Mental health services are also available through the University Counseling Center in Lester Hall — free counseling. And if you need medication, first psychiatric visit is $25, with all follow-ups free.

The university now has two locations — the main one and the new South Oxford Center. To schedule, call *(662)-915-7274* .

Here's my full list of free stuff I've discovered:
  • Equipment loans — cameras, mics, MacBooks with Adobe Creative Cloud (IDEAlab, 3-day loans)
  • Professional clothing — Career Closet at South Oxford Center, open weekdays 11am-3pm
  • Healthcare — first visit $10, up to $500 assistance for labs
  • Mental health — free counseling, $25 first psych visit
  • NYT subscription — full digital access through graduation
  • Kanopy — free streaming of critically acclaimed films
  • Microsoft Office 365 — free login with your email
  • Interlibrary Loan — free article access in 1-2 days
  • Tutoring — free through most departments
  • Writing and Speaking Center — free proofreading and presentation help in Lamar Hall
We're already paying for all this with our fees. Use them! 💸

Wait, IDEAlab loans cameras and mics?? I'm in a film class and was about to spend $200 on equipment. Thank you for this.

Also the interlibrary loan tip — if your professor assigns a book that's checked out, ILL will get it from another school in like 2 days. Free. I've used it for obscure articles too. They scan and email PDFs. Lifesaver for research papers. Martina, you should post this in the class Facebook groups too. So many people don't know.
